Documentaries

We went to the Marin Headlands, just north of San Francisco, to visit the Cold War-era Nike Missile Site.

The Nike Missile program basically was intended to be point defense against incoming Soviet nuclear bombers. Each of the 10 missles (per site) had a nuclear warhead. At the height of the Cold War, there were 24 of these sites around the San Francisco bay area ALONE. (10*24=240 Nuclear warheads)
In the entire US, 280 SITES were created.

The site has been largely restored, of the 2 loading magazines, 1 was complete with all 4 missiles (De-activated of course). They are open only on the weekdays when we went, so we basically had a private tour.
